- Hello,
-
- Actually, if you read what Rockwell says about the reasoning for
- designing the chip, it makes good sense. It is CHEAP modem
- manufacturers that behave irresponsibly in not including the proper
- drivers to make the darn things work properly... he said as he
- stepped off of his soap box.
-
- There is good news (for Windows users anyway). Sorry, I do not know
- of any answers for those using Linux or other platforms.
-
- Rockwell makes the drivers available for downloading. You can get
- them at:
- Theses drivers are for Windows, not specific pieces of software. They
- make one change to your windows\system.ini file: comm.drv=wrpi.drv.
- By default, that line reads comm.drv=comm.drv. To get your modem to
- fully utilize the drivers, you only have to make a small modification
- to your internet software. Add either +H1 or +H3 or +H9 or
- +H11 to the modem init string.
- +H1 locks the modem DTE at 19,200 for RPI modems
- +H3 locks the modem DTE at 57,600 for RPI modems
- +H9 locks the modem DTE at 19,200 for RPI+ modems
- +H11 locks the modem DTE at 57,600 for RPI+ modems
-
- I have had tremendous luck getting otherwise troublesome modems to
- work properly with the WinRPI drivers. Note: I have seen problems
- with the Win95 drivers causing GPFs. The Win3.x drivers seem to work
- just fine in Windows 95 though. Hmm...
-
- If anyone would like to ask questions about any of this, please feel
- free to send me e-mail.
